Bill has more than 30 years of executive leadership and board experience in Asset Management, Financial Services, and Investment Funds. He brings strategic expertise in financial services business transformation, acquisitions of financial services firms, managing through growth and distressed markets, product development, and transnational financial services businesses.
He has served as a strategic advisor to investment management firms experiencing transitions in ownership structure and governance. Bill has worked closely with boards of financial services companies and investment funds on US and international financial, fiduciary, and business issues. This includes service as a director of private funds and current service as lead independent trustee of a mutual fund group, the Thomas White Funds, based in Chicago and Bangalore. For his work as a mutual fund independent trustee, he was named a finalist in the category of Small Fund Board Trustee of the Year (2020) in the annual Mutual Fund Industry Awards.
Previously he was General Counsel of Putnam Investments, Senior Managing Director of Gottex Funds Management, Head of US Legal and Compliance Consulting with DMS Governance, as well as service in the Financial Services Groups at Dechert, LLP and Rogers & Wells Clifford Chance, major global law firms.
A native New Yorker who has lived in Boston for many years, Bill holds a BA degree in History (magna cum laude) from Amherst College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, a Master’s degree from King’s College, Cambridge University where he was a Keasbey Foundation Scholar, and a law degree from Columbia University. Earlier in his career he was a staff member of the Committee on the Judiciary of the United States Senate.
